  • Better conflict solving – in prison staff’s focus

Developing conflict solving abilities was the purpose of a seminar organized during February 24-26, 2010.  This is the second seminar from a series of seminars in the management field.  These trainings are meant to strengthen the skills of penitentiary staff, improve existing performance and develop new qualities necessary for effective work in the system.

The sessions were moderated by local and international experts together. Mrs. Angela Otean, Head of Human Resources spoke about the role of leaders in personnel management, as well as management of persons in detention, about motivating the subordinates and objective assessment of their results.

Mrs. Otilia Stamatin, academician, psychologist and assistant professor at the State Pedagogical University "Ion Creanga" was invited in this seminar. She impressed the participants with her wisdom and persuasion when she talked about self-leadership and promotion of authentic values as a method of preventing prison officers from emotionally burning-out.

A number of important topics were discussed and presented by Ms. Juliana Adam and Mrs. Natalia Antonievici, who work as psychologists in the prison system. Among these may be mentioned: the general characteristics of conflicts in prisons, the stress in prison, conflict and means of solving conflicts, the experiment of false prison.

Traditionally, in the seminars organized jointly by DIP and NORLAM, Norwegian expert makes a presentation of his experience and practices applied in European countries. Having a experience of more than 35 years working in the prison system, Mr. Arvid Senneset talked about conflict situations typical for Norwegian prisons as well as tactics of reconciliation, negotiation and solving conflicts.
